“Don’t think to give but give to think”
I wrote on BEING GIVEN TO A LIFE OF LIBERALITY it will bless you a lot, please click on that topic the way you see it, so that you can have access to read it. Paul started by saying that when it comes to giving we must understand that we shall reap what we sow
We understand that the way we give either sparingly or bountifully is as a result of the way we see giving and also the position of our hearts. Understanding is the key factor when giving comes in. To give bountifully may not necessarily mean to give much but to give in such a way that just like Cain and Abel the Lord will prefer our offering because of the way we understand Him and because of the way we present our seed to Him. I’ll not hide this truth from scriptures that says that “you must give as you purpose in your heart” but to be wise is to keep in mind that you shall reap what you sow whether bountifully or sparingly.
2 Corinthians 9:7 EVERY MAN ACCORDING AS HE PURPOSETH IN HIS HEART, SO LET HIM GIVE; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
One of the key point to giving is to be a cheerful giver, to give with an understanding and a rejoicing heart, knowing what you’re doing is as a reflection of love towards God.
- Learning to give in the time of pressure and famine.
“Giving goes beyond the season you are in, whether in lack or in abundance our liberality need to abound richly”
Scriptures make us to understand that Isaac sowed when in famine
Genesis 26:1 And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar.
26:12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.
Let me move away from this a little, there is a position we need to have in our hearts, above some seasons that are contrary our lives as believers, especially in the times when things are not the way they should be. Now we see that Isaac sow yet in famine and then received in that same year of famine a hundredfold and the Lord blessed him. You know when it comes to harvest, it’s always in thirty folds, sixty folds and then hundreds folds. I like to use the word that Kayode Lasisi used by saying
“the season of famine is a time when people withdraw from sowing, they tend to keep what they have rather than sow it but this takes faith”
I also agree with what Pastor Poju Oyemade said that
“when you are in a time of pressure do two things: give to God and give to men”
Now on famine scripture says to laugh at that time
Job 5:22 At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh: neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth.
What should be our attitude towards giving should be like the Macedonia Church that even in lack, we must abound unto the riches of liberality.
2 Corinthians 8:2 How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.
There is a correct respond to giving, which we must learn to put to practice as God’s people whether in times of trouble or in abundance, which is to abound richly in liberality. The testimony of our faith should not change most especially when challenges arises but rather we must be found faithful giving glory to God. Never hold back your money in difficult times but let heavens see how you’re open to giving, regardless of what you’re facing. You’re blessed!
