“See that you listen to God more than you listen to men”
In the last series, we looked at DIVORCE where we talked about what Jesus says on divorce that when you put away your wife you make her to commit adultery though what people may see most is that for the cause of fornication and the statement also says you cause her to commit adultery and we also discussed that God said He hate divorce. We shall continue this series by looking at what Jesus says about
“Plain words, plain truth. God hears and sees a contrite heart than a high minded soul”
Jesus at this time came to put an end to laws that held the people from serving the Lord the way they should, they were overly taken by laws but Jesus came to reveal the mind of God to man. Again we see Him bring the words of the old time in play and then tell them what He have to say about those issues now, so we heard Him say
Matthew 5: 33 Again, you have heard that it was said to the men of old, You shall not swear falsely, but you shall perform your oaths to the Lord [as a religious duty].
You see the word of the old times? You shall not swear falsely, but you shall perform your oaths to the Lord. I believe this relate to the Lord and Jesus response afterwards reveals that God is not hungry and in need of food but He desires that man will do things according to the measure of grace given to him. The truth is when it comes to given, the scriptures requires us to give as we have purposed in our heart, and not falseful given or by compulsion but with a cheerful heart.
2 Corinthians 9:6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
9:7 Every man according as HE PURPOSETH IN HIS HEART, SO LET HIM GIVE; not grudgingly, or of necessity: FOR GOD LOVETH A CHEERFUL GIVER.
“Don’t think to give but give to think”
Giving of seeds requires what you purpose in your heart even your offerings, that’s what the scripture says. What will cure strength of being stingy to give to God’s kingdom is love because even when the church at Macedonia was in deep poverty they gave yet again.
2 Corinthians 8:2 How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.
8:5 And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God.
This is the attitude to giving. We must understand that giving goes beyond giving our substance it is first to give ourselves first to the Lord and that’s what that church did, but this must be said, it is according to how you purpose in your heart and if you have given way to the love of God in your heart, by that heart you can purpose to give all to the Lord. Someone said the best gift that was given was the gift of the Son. Now let’s see what Jesus have to say about swearing falsely…
34 But I tell you, Do not bind YOURSELVES BY AN OATH AT ALL: either by heaven, for it is the throne of God;
35 Or by the earth, for it is the footstool of His feet; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King.
36 And do not swear by your head, for you are not able to make a single hair white or black.
37 Let your Yes be simply Yes, and your No be simply No; anything more than that comes from the evil one. (AMP)
First word Jesus said “Do not bind yourself by an oath at all” then he stated means by which people can do that, by heaven, by earth, by Jerusalem and by the head. Then this is what He has to say which is our words “let your YES by YES and your NO be NO” do you want to give to God’s kingdom? YES! Do you want to give to God’s Kingdom? NO! It is according to how you purpose in your heart whether YES or NO. Then he said when we speak words outside of this then what we are speaking actually comes from the evil one.
In the next series, we shall look at what Jesus says on RETALIATION. Thank you for reading.
