“One thing defines us and gives us the right attitude to life as a church, unless we find it, we may lose focus”

At a program at least 12hours Believers Conference tagged “A People of One thing focusing on the truth that defines us” it was such a moment with the Lord and these were some of the thoughts I shared. Now we may not clearly declare what defines us unless we see through the word of God, the word of God is God speaking to us as said by Kenneth E. Hagin. Often we have declared many things to be our life but we need to understand clearly what our life is and to understand this we need to go by the way of God’s word for which the truth of our lives can be revealed to us. Scriptures said very clearly that Christ is our life.

Colossians  3:4 When CHRIST, WHO IS OUR LIFE, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

So it’s clear, that Christ is our life. Notice the word “Our” it tells of a church, this means as the body of Christ we only have one goal and one life which is Christ. That’s what defines the church and when we keep to these pursuit we shall see that our life will be surrounded around that one thing.

  • Giving up all things for one thing

“Sight is what will make us go after one thing by giving up all things”

You know a man can lack that one thing and not know and it may be revealed to him but he is not ready to give it up, Jesus said to the rich man though you have done well by obeying the commandments from your youth but you still lack one thing and then I realize something from the statement of Jesus that unless you’re loved by the Lord you may never know what you lack, this we see as the Lord said to him that one thing you lack
Mark  10:21 Then JESUS BEHOLDING HIM LOVED HIM, and said unto him, ONE THING THOU LACKETH: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

“We must give up all things to get one thing”

Maybe such a word would not have come out because scripture reads Jesus beholding him loved him and said unto him…” the truth is what birth the revelation of God’s word to us is love, and because God love us, He will show us what we lack. So Jesus said to the rich man, go and sell whatsoever that you have and give all to the poor, but the problem the man have many things but he can’t give it up for one thing that Jesus said he lacks. When a man tells you, this is what you lack but to get it, you have to sell up the things you have for that one thing, now understand it is what you lack and not what you have.

“Understanding the worth of one thing that we lack, will make us to give up all things for one thing”

Giving what we have for what we lack is to have sight and understanding for one thing that defines us.

We see a man like Paul who have a high credentials and he said he gave it up for one thing which is Christ.

“The wisdom is giving up all things for one thing is that, one thing birth all things, this has been the principle of the Kingdom of God”

Philippians  3:4 Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:

3:5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;
3:6 Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.

3:8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

You see what Paul did, he said what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. It’s clear that Christ is one thing. You can’t see the reason to give up all things for one thing unless you have come to a place of sight, that see the riches in Christ against the riches of the world.

  • Christ the mystery behind one thing that locates all things

“You only need to follow after one thing that brings all things”

Having established that Christ is our one thing that we need to sell up all things so that we can get one thing, we will see the wisdom in God that associate Christ to all things when we release ourselves to one thing. We must not be children in this wise that, when you tell a child to bring the two #5 in his hand for just one #200 in our hand but he refuses saying his own is much more better and many than yours because they are two. That’s not to understand the value of one thing. So, let’s see the wisdom of God, scriptures make it clear that all things

Colossians  1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

1:16 For BY HIM were ALL THINGS created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: ALL THINGS WERE CREATED BY HIM, AND FOR HIM:

It reads that all things were created by Him and for Him and note the word “all things” all things are made for one Man Christ. For me, I love anything that comes from the source than getting just the thing.  Let’s see further

Colossians  1:17 And he is before all things, and BY HIM ALL THINGS CONSIST.

All things lies in Christ and believers are to stick to Christ because God has made all things to consist in Him. When we begin to seek after the things of Christ, we will enter into the fullness of the Godhead. Christ holds all things, it pleased God to make all fullness to dwell in Him. There is nothing that is not associated with the Lord Christ. Even the Godhead is housed in the body of Jesus the Christ. God’s wisdom is to make all things to consist in Him, so it’s clear that Christ is the center for all things but the problem is we want to be like Martha who was encumbered with many things

Luke  10:40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.

10:41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:  10:42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

The truth is when the church begin to focus on one thing then is our focus made right towards the Lord. But we must never be encumbered with many things, for when one thing is known we need not many things.

  • The right attitude for one thing

“Our attitude towards one thing which is needful will make us get that one thing which is Christ”

(a) We need the attitude that David possessed for this one thing, he said

Psalms  27:4 ONE THING HAVE I desired of the LORD, that(ONE THING) WILL I SEEK AFTER; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.

We need the attitude of seeking, David said he desire just one thing and that one thing will he seek after. The truth is, when we have found the one thing we need to come into a commitment of seeking after it. We need to keep seeking after the Lord with a deep hunger, not to get things from Him but to get Him. Christ is the definition of our lives. We need that attitude of David that seek after that one thing that our life so desire which is the Lord.

(b) We need the attitude of Paul which is focus and pressing towards the mark. We see Paul said this is one thing he does in other to reach the mark of the high calling. The truth is, unless we live for that one thing we have not truly lived. The question is what are you pressing towards daily to get?

Philippians  3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this ONE THING I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

We need to live our lives for that one thing which is Christ and we must live it with a focus and passion. We must understand that unless we live with the focus of one thing which is Christ, our walk will not measure up to how God expects us to walk.
