The Bible says to everything there is a purpose. You need to understand why you need wisdom in your life. Most especially you should ask when you know you lack wisdom.

James  1:5 IF  ANY  OF  YOU  LACK  WISDOM, LET  HIM  ASK  OF  GOD, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

We understand from the word of God that we ask for wisdom basically because  we lack wisdom. When the purpose of having wisdom is to use it to cheat  people then that is wrong. I believe God will not give us the wisdom but when the basis of which we ask of it is just and true, the Lord will actually give them to us. We will receive it because the word of God says we should ask of it when we know we lack it. And because we ask the Lord of it, through the understanding of His Word, He will give us because His Word assured us of it. And it is God that gives wisdom and He gives it liberally. We also know through His word that He gives wisdom because when we ask He promise to give us.

Matthew  7:7 ASK, AND  IT  SHALL  BE  GIVEN  YOU; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

So when we ask under the basis of our lack of it, the Lord will give it unto us. That’s a good purpose of asking.

Also, we must ask basically because we will need it to help others. When this is known, then we can not be denied of the wisdom we prayed for. We see the purpose for which Solomon needed wisdom below…

2 Chronicles  1:10 GIVE  ME  NOW  WISDOM  AND  KNOWLEDGE, THAT  I MAY  GO  OUT  AND  COME  IN  BEFORE  THIS  PEOPLE: for WHO  CAN  JUDGE  THIS  THY  PEOPLE, THAT  IS  SO  GREAT?

1:11 And GOD  SAID  to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; BUT  HAST  ASKED  WISDOM  AND  KNOWLEDGE  FOR  THYSELF, THAT  THOU  MAYEST  JUDGE  MY  PEOPLE, OVER  WHOM  I HAVE  MADE  THEE  KING:
1:12 WISDOM  AND  KNOWLEDGE  IS  GRANTED  UNTO  THEE; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.

He asked  of it for the purpose of his people. He needs wisdom as a king so that he will judge and lead them aright. Even God reckoned  with what he said that you ask of wisdom so that  you can be able to judge my people and the Lord said because of that then you have it already, He  gave the wisdom to Solomon right there and then. No delay when the purpose for which we need wisdom is to use it to be of help to people, God does not deny such requests. So guide your purpose for wisdom under this and you’ll see that you’ll come into wisdom. Be blessed!
