Amos  3:3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

One of the things to note about friendship is that there will be an agreement, agreement in the sense that you want to be one another’s friend. But often we do not watch the kind of friends that we keep. Now let’s see the purpose of friendship

  • To sharpen one another and for lifting

Proverbs  27:17  Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

“The friends you keep reflect who you are, they are like a mirror and they reflect you”

Now the scripture we read says iron sharpens iron, let me ask you, can a wood sharpen an iron? If it’s not possible then any friend that can not sharpen you is not worth keeping. Friends are meant to sharpen one another and as the other gets sharper the other friend too get the same, you flow at the same frequency of grace, so that such is able to understand you when you talk and also to talk to you when you take wrong steps. You must learn not to be isolated, the Bible says woe to him that is alone, when he falls no one will be able to pick him up

Ecclesiastes  4:9 Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.

4:10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.

You must understand that only a friend that is of like mind can pick you up and won’t lead you to error and all he will do is to encourage you and make you stand even when you fall. A friend that has his mind towards the Lord is who you need and you must also trust God to identify one.

  • To have a rub-on of what your friend have.

Proverbs  13:20  He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

“Unless we walk with people that have what we lack we may never have them”

Understanding that friendship is not just walking with everybody, you must walk purposefully with people by having in mind that as you walk with them you will have a rub on of what they have. This scriptures says he that walk(keep company) with the wise shall be wise, so let’s see it this way, he that walk with the fool shall be a what? A fool! The next part of the scripture says the company of fools shall be destroyed, I believe you don’t want to be destroyed? So watch your company. To be wise walk with the wise then you’ll begin to think wisely. The truth about this is that when you walk with a company of friends that smiles, love God, love to pray and love to read their Bibles in no time it will rub on you as keep up with them and open up your heart with readiness to get what they have, you will also begin to do the same because that’s what the Bible says: he that walk with the wise men shall be wise.

Finally, any time you notice you lack a thing maybe a character or anything, learn to walk with those people and maintain the flow of what you get from such people. Let’s see Saul, when he was in the company of prophets he did prophesied which tells every company you keep will produce something in you.

1 Samuel  10:11  And it came to pass, when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, HE PROPHESIED AMONG THE PROPHETS, then the people said one to another, What is this that is come unto the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?

You see that? Saul prophesied among them because they are all prophets. I have learn to walk with some people especially when I notice that they have a measure of grace that I don’t have, I understand that it will rub on me and what I do is to just get close a little and that’s it. To ask you among which friends do you stay?
