Proverbs  22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Training is very important and that’s why when a man wants to learn a thing he need to become a child. Becoming a child in the sense that he need to be open to learning. In childhood you are able to fix your children on what you want them to become in the path of the Lord, you do this by sowing the right seed into them. The seed has to be given time to grow, you must understand that every seed sown into your children’s lives need timing so that they can bear their fruit upward.

“When your children hear you speak of how you hear from God it will make them ask questions and this gives room for an answer”

One thing about children is that an average of them have an inquisitive heart and they know how to ask questions a lot by what they see consistently. Developing yourself to hear from God will help your children also to hear from God. There are times we may not even know that the Lord has started speaking to them but when we are sensitive enough and they come to us we will know this is God speaking to them. This we saw happened to Samuel as Eli was there to help him out.

1 Samuel  3:4 That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.

3:5 And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.

3:6 And the LORD called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.

We see how the Lord wanted to speak to Samuel but he was not aware that it was the Lord, so he went to Eli thinking it was Eli that was calling him, that’s the more reason our children need us to direct them.

3:7 Now SAMUEL DID NOT YET KNOW the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him.

We see here that Samuel did not know the Lord yet and the word of the Lord was not revealed to him yet. Those two things are important to hearing from God, the word of the Lord and to know the Lord but we have to first teach it to our children, THUS we will help them also to able to discern the Lord.

We will see that Eli never knew it was the Lord calling Samuel until the third time and then when he perceived it was the Lord,   He then said to him that when you hear that voice again just say “speak Lord Your servant hears”

1 Samuel  3:8 And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And ELI PERCEIVED THAT THE LORD HAD CALLED THE CHILD.

3:9 Therefore ELI SAID UNTO SAMUEL, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if HE CALL THEE, THAT THOU SHALT SAY, SPEAK, LORD; FOR THY SERVANT HEARETH. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

You notice the word “the child” it was at that stage that the Lord began to speak to him and am sure after this stage he may not often go back again to Eli that are you calling me but will respond as he was told “speak Lord your servant hears” we saw later that the Lord came to him and he said what Eli told him.

3:10 And the LORD CAME,  and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. THEN SAMUEL ANSWERED, SPEAK; FOR THY SERVANT HEARETH.

3:11 And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.

Eli was discerning enough to know it was the Lord speaking to Samuel and he taught him how to respond to God. This is how to teach your children to hear from God.  So parents train your children to study the word of God and  make known the Lord to them, then quietly teach them that when they pray or hear a still small voice that it is the Lord and let them say to the Lord “speak Lord Your servant hears.”  The profiting part of this is that they will grow in this line and the fruit you will reap as their parents is that may also tell you what the Lord is saying, giving you the right words in due season from the Lord.
