“Doctrine means teaching, and they need to be set rightly on the word of God”
We begin this series by saying that the principles of the doctrine of Christ are foundational teaching that will guide us into maturity. Although there is need to move beyond this teachings. We shall continue this series by looking at the things what Apostle Paul listed to us as the doctrine of Christ
- REPENTANCE FROM DEAD WORKS
Hebrews 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of REPENTANCE FROM DEAD WORKS, and of faith toward God,
Repentance is the response we give from our heart when we know that we have fallen short or we are not walking as the Lord expect us to work. Repentance shows the true heart of a disciple. What repentance does is to make us to keep approaching the end of our salvation.
2 Corinthians 7:10 For godly sorrow WORKETH REPENTANCE TO SALVATION not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
You notice Paul said the sorrow of the world works death. Death means separation from God, but repentance brings you to God. Don’t ever think repentance is not important. If it were so, Jesus will not write through Apostle John to the churches to repent. Dead works are works that does not live before God or does not produce the life of faith(God) in us. Things done that are not acceptable before God, like a dead offering. Works are actually expected to produce faith but when they are dead works then we need to repent of it. Dead works may be sin and this in itself is death. Repentance is what aligns our heart to the counsels an purposes of God.
In the next series, we shall consider FAITH TOWARDS GOD. You’ll understand that without these things we may attain perfection and maturity in God.
