“What baptism does to you, is to make you become what you’re being baptized into”

In the last series, we looked at the BAPTISM WITH THE HOLY GHOST and we saw how it all began with the Apostles. We looked at how they spoke in tongues immediately even though this may not be the usual way that after being filled with Holy Ghost that you speak in tongues immediately and we gave scriptural references of Paul and men at Samaria. We shall continue in this series by looking at

  • BAPTISM INTO CHRIST

Before we can understand the baptism into Christ, we need to see the baptism into Moses. Scriptures said the children of Israel were baptized into Moses as they passed through the sea. Moses was a type of Christ.

1 Corinthians  10:1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

10:2 And were all BAPTIZED UNTO MOSES in the cloud and in the sea;

Moses represent the church or was the head of the church at that time for Israel, which he was a type of Christ. This we now understand that baptism is a way to be baptized into Christ.

Galatians  3:27  For as many of you as have been BAPTIZED INTO CHRIST have put on Christ.

Paul talked about being baptized into Christ, he said as many of us that have being baptized into Christ, what we now have is; we have put on Christ. Again, we see that this was also said that

Romans  6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were BAPTIZED INTO JESUS CHRIST were baptized into his death?

The question should be, how were we being baptized into Christ? Now Paul explains this by saying that when Christ died, we also died with Him. That medium was a called a baptism into death, because we went down with Him in His death. This also is what happened in water baptism, we identify with His death by it. We identify with His death. We are actually buried with Jesus in baptism.

Colossians  2:12 BURIED WITH HIM IN BAPTISM, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

Romans  6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by BAPTISM INTO DEATH: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Baptism is like a clothing. When you go through water baptism, your whole body gets inside the water like a burial. There is something about dye, when you make use of it, you soak or immerse a cloth deep inside the dye, so that it can take the colour of that die. Thereby it lost it former colour or be renewed into the colour of that dye. This is the same with being baptized into Christ. You get soaked and you wear Christ or put on Christ.

Romans  13:14  But PUT YE ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

That putting on, is like being baptized into Christ. For we now wear Christ, so as the children of Israel were baptized into Moses, as they passed through the sea, we were also being baptized into Christ as we were baptized into water (the baptism into death, His death). There is something we are being baptized into, which is Christ. You’ll understand when scriptures call us Christ’s.

1 Corinthians  3:23  And YE ARE CHRIST’S; and Christ is God’s.

Galatians  5:24  And THEY THAT ARE CHRIST’S have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

Galatians  3:29  And IF YE BE CHRIST’S, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

The baptism into Christ was to make us Christ’s.

In the next series we shall look at, another principle of the doctrine of Christ which is, the LAYING ON OF HANDS.
