“Laying on of hands stands as a medium of transferring anointing or grace to another person from someone higher”
In the last series, we looked at BAPTISM INTO CHRIST where we discussed on the truth that as the children of Israel were baptized into Moses as they journeyed through the sea. We are also being baptized into Christ by measure of baptism, where we identify with Him. We shall continue this series by looking at
- LAYING ON OF HANDS
Hebrews 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
6:2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of LAYING ON OF HANDS, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
We see that in the principles of Christ or the beginning of Christ another thing which we need to know is the laying on of hands. We shall see the practice in the Old Testament and in the New.
- Laying on of hands in the Old Testament
Leviticus 16:21 And Aaron shall LAY BOTH HIS HANDS UPON THE HEAD OF THE LIVE GOAT, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness:
We see that a goat carried the sin of the people as Aaron lay his hands on the live goat. This means the laying of hands stands as a means to transfer the sin of the people to a live goat then, and the sin will no longer be on the people but on the goat. This also stands as a means to transfer anointing.
- We saw that through the laying on of the hand Joshua was full of the Spirit of wisdom because Moses laid hands on him.
Deuteronomy 34:9 And JOSHUA THE SON OF NUN WAS FULL OF THE SPIRIT OF WISDOM; FOR MOSES HAD LAID HIS HANDS UPON HIM: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the LORD commanded Moses.
So it clear that through the laying on of hands by Moses, Joshua was full of the Spirit of wisdom. This laying of hands is important because by it we can be impacted by someone higher and we may receive the same grace in their lives too.
In the next series, we shall see how this was also stated in the New Testament.
