“The purpose of baptism is to bring us in to God”

In the last series, we looked at FAITH TOWARDS GOD, where we shared on faith as our response to the word of God. We shall continue this series by looking at

Hebrews  6:2 OF THE DOCTRINE OF BAPTISMS , and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

Basically we have three types of baptism, which we shall look at

  1. Baptism by Water
  2. Baptism with the Holy Spirit
  3. Baptism into Christ

These three are very important for us to look at and we need to participate in these three for our maturing. What is baptism? Baptism is being immersed fully or being buried fully into water, Holy Spirit and into Christ. Now let’s look at

Water baptism is what we ought to do after we give our lives to Christ. Though is not important that it should be immediately. Some times, some people even got baptized in the Holy Spirit and then get to be baptized later by water.

We understand very clearly that John baptized people that repented by water immediately after confessing their sins.

Matthew  3:5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,

3:6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

We see that John said it boldly that he baptized with water and the purpose of it was to baptized them with water unto repentance.

Matthew  3:11 I INDEED BAPTIZE YOU WITH WATER UNTO REPENTANCE: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

We see Paul confirming to us that, the water baptism that John did was for a baptism of repentance that will bring men to Jesus.

Acts  19:4 Then said Paul, JOHN VERILY BAPTIZED WITH THE BAPTISM OF REPENTANCE, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

Very quickly, in what name do you do water baptism because it is still relevant till date.

  • You can  baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost

Matthew  28:19  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, BAPTIZING THEM IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, AND OF THE SON, AND OF THE HOLY GHOST:

  • You can  baptize in the name of the Lord Jesus

Acts  19:5 When they heard this, they were BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS.

Acts  8:15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:

8:16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS.

  • You can  baptize in the name of the Lord

Acts  10:48  And he commanded them to be BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF THE LORD. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

Acts  22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

  • You can baptize in the name of Jesus Christ

Acts  2:38  Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be BAPTIZED EVERY ONE OF YOU IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts  8:12  But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

In the next series, we shall look at baptism of the Holy Ghost as these things pertain to our maturing as becometh saints.
