“When a man understand the purpose of Christ, he will love to see himself in Christ and also identify himself with Christ”
In our first series on MY IDENTITY WITH CHRIST we looked at who is Christ? We discussed the truth that the Father made Jesus both Lord and Christ through His crucifixion and then He also obtained that name from the Father by inheritance. We also looked at how Jesus the Christ house the Godhead bodily because it pleased the Father that in Him should all fullness dwell even in the Father. We also considered the truth that Jesus is the wisdom and the power of God. We will continue in this series by looking at
- THE PURPOSE OF CHRIST
1. That the Father might be REVEALED TO US.
Colossians 1:15 WHO IS THE IMAGE OF THE INVISIBLE GOD, the firstborn of every creature:
Hebrews 1:3 WHO BEING THE BRIGHTNESS OF HIS GLORY, AND THE EXPRESS IMAGE OF HIS PERSON, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
We see that Jesus the Christ is the expressed image of God and He is the One that reveals the invisible God. Scripture says no man has seen God, the given of Christ reveals the Father to us. For you to see God clearly you need to see the Son, He reveals the totality of God. Looking at the Son you’ll see that He reveals the Godhead bodily as the word of God says.
2. That we might know Him that is revealed TO US.
The essence of what is revealed is to be known, Christ revealed the Father to us and opens the door to knowing the Father to us. He made this available to us by His mercy.
John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they MIGHT KNOW THEE THE ONLY TRUE GOD, AND JESUS CHRIST, WHOM THOU HAST SENT.
Jesus the Christ is also Eternal life and He was given that we might know the Father through the Son that was sent to reveal the Father. This is because the Father can not be made known without the Son. We need to also increase in the knowledge of God that’s why Paul was praying for an increase in the knowledge of God.
Colossians 1:10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and INCREASING IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD;
Christ is the one that will do the work of the knowledge of God in us, that’s why He was given. And as we desire the Lord the Father is made known unto us even by the Spirit of God.
3. To reveal the Son IN US.
Galatians 1:15 But when it PLEASED GOD, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace,
1:16 TO REVEAL HIS SON IN ME, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood:
We see the word “PLEASED God” this is associated with the word “it PLEASED the Father that in Him should all fullness dwell” by this we see that it take God to be pleased in other to reveal the Son to us and it will take the Father to be pleased to reveal the Son in us. Using the Son because as the Son is revealed in us the Father is also revealed. You can’t separate the Godhead. You see that? Blessed be God that He is pleased! That’s why you’ll understand Paul when he said
Galatians 4:19 My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until CHRIST BE FORMED IN YOU,
The work is complete when He is revealed in us and not just to be revealed to us. Man can stay at the revelation of Christ being revealed to him and not progress into being revealed in him. Our desire is to see Him revealed in us, this is what will make us carry Christ in our mortal flesh. So we understand so far that the purpose of Christ is to reveal the Father to us, so that we might know Him that is revealed and that He might be revealed in us. In our next series we will consider LEARNING OF CHRIST…
