“Unless we learn to behold Christ and receive teaching of Christ we may not come into Christ. To come into Christ there must be a teaching and a learning of Him”

In the last series we looked at THE PURPOSE OF CHRIST where we discussed that the purpose of Christ is that He might reveal the Father to us, that we might know Him that is revealed  to us and also that the Son might be revealed in us. We will continue by looking at

Jesus first made mention of the word to learn of Him and this is something that we need to look into…

Matthew  11:29  Take my yoke upon you, and LEARN OF ME; for I AM MEEK AND to  OWLY IN HEART: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

The things Jesus said to learn of Him are

(a) Meekness and

(b) A lowly heart

Let’s see these things one after the other

(a) Meekness

Meekness is one of the fruit of the spirit

Galatians  5:22 But the FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

5:23 MEEKNESS, temperance: against such there is no law.

Is to have a quiet and gentle spirit, even when you’re right you do not claim you are right and others are wrong, if at all you’re to do this you will do it with a humble heart given honour to the person as you speak gracefully and not with shoutings. I have noticed that people will change how they talk to you if you learn to speak and conduct yourself in a meek way. Meekness is to have a humble heart, to conduct yourself and speak gracefully. That’s what we see in the Bible

Galatians  6:1  Brethren, if a man be OVERTAKEN IN A FAULT, ye which are spiritual, RESTORE SUCH AN ONE IN THE SPIRIT OF MEEKNESS; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

Titus  3:2  To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, SHEWING ALL MEEKNESS unto all men.

(b) A lowly heart

To be lowly in the heart in the sense that you consider others better than yourself. A man that is low in heart does not always put himself first but others first, this may be hard but that is our nature in Christ.

Philippians  2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in LOWLINESS OF MIND let each esteem other better than themselves.

This we see that Jesus was always doing, He referred more to the Father than Himself. We can’t be low in mind if we do not learn of Christ by esteeming others better than ourselves. Lowliness of mind makes you look to the things of others and not just to look to the things of yourself.

Philippians  2:4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

We also see from the word of God that these two are ingredients to how to forbear people

This is one scripture I can’t forget in my life, something happened in school then and we were hurt and we wanted to respond according to how we feel because we felt they did wrong to us and by the help of the spirit of God this scripture was what the Lord said to my heart “Forbearing one another in love” and we quit from the act then we held our peace.

So as believers we need to be meek and be lowly in heart for this was how Jesus walked and we are expected to also walk this way.

1 John  2:6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, EVEN AS HE WALKED.
