“Grace is for the obedience of the faith. Faith is for the doing righteousness”

For me, one of the things I noticed about Bible is the word “righteousness” and often it can be taken as you have to do something to earn it. Even though it requires you to do some things to keep it. But let’s see how your faith can be counted for righteousness.

You know, Abraham was said to believed God and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

Romans  4:3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

Being the type that seeks knowledge, I search for what he did God for, that made God to count Abraham’s believe for righteousness and this is what I found.

Genesis  15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

15:2 And Abram said, LORD God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?

15:3 And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.

15:4 And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.

15:5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.

15:6 And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

What he believed God for was said in verse 5, that just as he can not count the number for stars there is, so shall his seed be. Then, what he did was, he believed God and God counted it as righteousness. It occur to be that whenever I believe God’s word for me, God counts it as righteousness. But note scripture didn’t say there was a work he did to earn it but he just believed. Scripture now said if we do the same our faith shall be counted for righteousness.

Romans  4:4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

Finally, scriptures says for them that walk in the steps of faithful Abraham they will partake of what he partook in. God is no respecter of persons. If He did it for Abraham without earning it then He is just to do it for you through your faith!
