“What we see may actually call our hearts for respond but we need to encourage ourselves in the Lord and then seek Him for instructions”

Prayer is an engagement with the Lord, it does not matter what we see we must trust to see what the Lord will say. Yes, it’s not easy at times because of what we face but we must readily encourage ourselves in the Lord. We must trust the Lord by seeking Him in prayers no matter what we see. We must be courageous enough to go after the Lord and not after what we see. Let’s see David’s approach to real life situation.

  • There was trouble in the land so much that it got to his wife

You know there are some troubles that may not really move a king until it touches his own family, in fact those are times when the people will know that what is happening has become more serious for it to get to the king. Now we see this happened to David

1 Samuel  30:1 And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire;

30:2 And had taken the women captives, that were therein: they slew not any, either great or small, but carried them away, and went on their way.

30:3 So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives.

30:4 Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and WEPT, UNTIL THEY HAD NO MORE POWER TO WEEP.

30:5 AND DAVID’S TWO WIVES WERE TAKEN CAPTIVES, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.

  • He was distressed too but he encouraged himself in the Lord

“Where do you find strength?”

David was distressed about the happening in the land but what he did was to encourage himself in the Lord

1 Samuel  30:6 AND DAVID WAS GREATLY DISTRESSED; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: BUT DAVID ENCOURAGED HIMSELF IN THE LORD HIS GOD.

“We must find strength in the Lord and stay there and then move with it”

We must encourage ourselves in the Lord.

  • He sought the Lord

“Instructions comes by seeking God”

There is wisdom in seeking God in the situations that we face

1 Samuel  30:7 And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David.

30:8 And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.

30:9 So David went, he and the six hundred men that were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those that were left behind stayed.

Ephod is a priestly garment, and what followed it what that he sought the Lord, we are the priest of our lives through Christ Jesus, we must learn to seek the Lord in prayers, engage Him and then obey what the Lord says. We must enquire of the Lord in prayers and then followed what the Lord says to do. How victory comes is by seeking the Lord and obeying the Lord.
