Psalms 127:3 Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
127:4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.
We must practically train our children on how to love the word of God, understanding that children are the heritage of the Lord. I’m focusing on your daughter because in a sense the up bring of a girl is different from a boy. In this wise as the mother you can practically train her to love the word, this should not be done through punishment but with love. Often when your daughter sees that you love the word of God she will also fall in love with studying the word. I learn something from the book “praying through your pregnancy” by Jennifer Polimino and Carolyn Warren (for purchase in Amazon click) she shared of a testimony of how she started praying for her baby from the womb, she was saying the baby will love the Lord and that the baby will love the word of God and when the boy grew up, it was what she prayed for that actually came to being. But it doesn’t matter if you didn’t said that to your girl while in the womb, you can now. You can build her to love the word. Start with yourself and then when she sees you, she will begin to ask questions and then the love for word of God will be breathe upon her.
When you raise your daughter to love the Lord and to love the word of God she will grow up with it and not depart from it. The scriptures made it clear that
“Training majorly has to be from childhood”
Your daughter will not depart from it when you train her to love the Lord from a child.
“I noticed this about children that they pick their parents better by what they see them do.”
When you as the mother get involved with the word of God that will make her see that mummy loves the word, your husband too should be involved in this. Don’t feel you can’t do it. All you need is to receive the grace for it. You can also exchange roles that you will train your boy and then your husband will train your girl. It was Timothy’s grandmother that helped Timothy to be what he is. The flow of faith in her grandmother was strong enough to reach out to Timothy through her mother.
2 Timothy 1:5 When I call to remembrance the UNFEIGNED FAITH THAT IS IN THEE, WHICH DWELT FIRST IN THY GRANDMOTHER LOIS, AND THY MOTHER EUNICE; and I am persuaded that in thee also.
Paul said he is persuaded that that same kind of faith is also in Timothy which was first in her grandmother. You see, you can build your boys and girls up in this by first of all being built in the word of God. So you can just build your daughter to read just few passages in a day and then you get her some story Bibles so that she can be interested in it depending on her age and then making her jottings, this will help her a lot. When your daughter is being built this way she will become strong in the faith and when she leaves home she can stand on her own or study the word and fellowship with the word of God herself. That’s the essence not just to read it in your presence but also in your absence.
Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have ALWAYS OBEYED, NOT AS IN MY PRESENCE ONLY, BUT NOW MUCH MORE IN MY ABSENCE, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
“Obedience is born out of a sincere heart when the person watching is not there and the child continues in it.”
It is when you’re absent that you’ll know truly that your daughter has fully taken to what you trained her for. It reflect whether you forced her into it or it became something you have demonstrated the love of it before her and into her.
